Belfry and Market Square
At the heart of the town, the 16th-century belfry watches over the Market Square, Thionville’s living room. Terraces, stalls on Wednesdays and Saturdays, lit Christmas markets: the square lives from morning till night. Just next door, Saint-Maximin Church, in baroque style, surprises with the richness of its interior. A walk that in under an hour sets a natural and warm first date.
The Tour aux Puces, an unusual museum
A remnant of the castle of the Counts of Luxembourg, the Tour aux Puces raises its 11th-century polygonal silhouette above the town. It now shelters the municipal museum, dedicated to the history of the Thionville region from prehistory to the 19th century. An original and far more intimate route than the great regional museums, perfect for a curious date and a conversation that then stretches on a terrace.
Moselle quays and Napoleon Park
The Moselle crosses Thionville, inviting long walks on the redeveloped quays, punctuated by pontoons, barges and waterside bars. Napoleon Park, the green lung of the centre, lines plane trees, a bandstand and water games. A little aside, La Grange Castle completes the circuit. On Lyad, Thionville members share their favourite quays, bars and walks: it is up to you to find someone to follow the Moselle with.
